Good old fashioned sleep

Brain cleaning! – just one more reason sleep is our best medicine

Many of us are still adjusting to our new normal, COVID-adjusted lifestyles.

The disease and its attendant lockdown are forcing us to reset our lives. The hope – and expectation? – is that slowly but surely, at least as far as our wellbeing is concerning, we’re capturing all of the benefits offered by the new paradigm while mitigating any of its adverse consequences, such as loneliness or boredom.

Many of us have taken the chance to build our healthy habits – regular exercise, better diet, less alcohol.

For those of us who are fortune enough to work from home, we have the added advantage of multiple hours saved every week, and many of us are using the hours gained very positively in all sorts of health and wellbeing ways.

But here’s another activity not so many of us have added to our improved routines – ‘good old fashioned’ sleep.

There’s so much research to suggest that an extra investment in our sleep will pay a huge dividend. It could be one of the easiest ways to improve our wellbeing, and it might also provide the biggest payback.

We all know that sufficient sleep is essential to our wellbeing, but how about this – sleep also CLEANS our brains!!! See the video below.

Trying to summarise the neurological processes described in this video from Seeker is way beyond us at Switched ON Living, but sufficient to say it looks ‘legit’, and anyway …

Any excuse to get more sleep has ‘gotta’ be a good thing. If ‘brain cleaning’ is true, and sleep helps to protect us from diseases such as Alzheimer’s, then sign me up.
